Remembered on December 12

Spyridon the Wonderworker

Spyridon was a shepherd on Cyprus who became bishop of Trimythous in the fourth century. An early Church historian remembers that he continued tending sheep even as a bishop. He is honored for his humility, generosity and the miracles associated with his prayers. His life brings the care of a flock and the care of people close together. Holiness did not require him to become grand or distant; it deepened his responsibility for those entrusted to him.

How he died

He reposed in peace about 350.
