Simply Orthodox is a small educational and devotional website. It exists to help people pray and learn, not to collect information about them. This page says plainly what happens when you visit.
When you read the site
- There are no ads, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. We do not know who reads what.
- The site does not set cookies when you read it. One exception: our hosting provider’s security check may occasionally show a “checking your browser” page, and if it does, it sets a single temporary cookie to remember that you passed. That cookie is deleted when you close your browser. The check page itself belongs to Hostinger, and it loads a typeface from Google; the pages of Simply Orthodox do not.
- If you turn on quiet mode or choose how the daily readings appear (traditional, modern, or side by side), your browser remembers your choices on your own device using local storage. These saved settings are not cookies and are never sent to us. You can remove them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
- If you read an essay in a series, such as The Seven Councils, your browser also remembers how far you got, so the series page can offer to take you back to that place. This stays on your own device too, is not a cookie, and is never sent to us.
- Everything you see comes from this site. Your browser does not contact Google, social networks, or any other outside service while you read.
- There are no public comments.
When you write to us
The contact form asks for your name, your email address, your message, and what your message is about.
- If the contact form cannot complete your submission and asks you to try again, it temporarily keeps your name, email, message, topic, and mailing-list checkbox choice on our server under a random key so you can correct them without retyping. Your entries are never put in the web address; this recovery copy is deleted when the form first retrieves it, or expires after 15 minutes.
- Your message is emailed to me, privately, so I can read it and reply.
- A copy is kept on the site so nothing is lost. Messages are deleted automatically after 12 months. Messages our spam filter holds back are deleted after 30 days. If you join the mailing list, we keep your name, email address and the date you joined as a record of your consent. Deleted messages may remain in our hosting provider’s backups for up to 6 weeks.
- To stop the same person from flooding the form, we keep a one-way scrambled code made from your internet address. It can’t be turned back into your address. We do not store the address itself.
- We never sell, rent, or share what you send us.
The mailing list (optional)
The contact form has a box you can tick to join the mailing list. Only if you tick it, your name and email address are added to the mailing list for my websites, which is run by our hosting provider, Hostinger. Every email includes a link to unsubscribe, or you can write to us and we’ll remove you.
Where the site lives
The site is hosted by Hostinger on servers in the United States. Email from the contact form is delivered through Proton Mail.
Your requests
You can ask to see, correct, or delete anything you’ve sent us. Use the contact form, and I’ll take care of it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.
