Remembered on November 1

Cosmas and Damian

Cosmas and Damian are remembered as brothers and physicians from Asia Minor, in what is now Turkey, during the early centuries of the Church. Their mother, Theodota, taught them the Christian faith. They cared for the sick without asking for payment, which is why the Church calls them Unmercenaries. Their remembrance joins prayer with practical care: a sick person needs help, whether or not that person can afford to pay.

How they died

Tradition holds that both brothers reposed in peace.
