Remembered on November 2

Acindynus and His Companions

Acindynus, Pegasius, Aphthonius, Elpidophorus, and Anempodistus are remembered as Christian martyrs in fourth-century Persia, during the reign of Shapur II. Their traditional account tells how the courage of believers under persecution drew others to Christ. The Church remembers the five together, though they did not all come to faith in the same way. Their remembrance invites us to consider how our own faith may give courage to someone else.

How they died

Tradition holds that Aphthonius and Elpidophorus were beheaded, while Acindynus, Pegasius, and Anempodistus were burned to death.
