Remembered on November 26
Alypius the Stylite
- VenerableA saint remembered for a holy life of monastic prayer, self-denial, and service to God.
All venerable
Alypius was a monk from Adrianopolis in Paphlagonia, in what is now Turkey, remembered in the seventh century. He lived for many years on a pillar, giving his days to prayer through heat and cold. That is what the title Stylite means: someone who lived on a pillar. His unusual life points toward something we can practice wherever we are: returning to prayer, patiently, day after day.
How he died
Tradition holds that he reposed in peace after a long illness.
