Remembered on December 5
Sabbas the Sanctified
- VenerableA saint remembered for a holy life of monastic prayer, self-denial, and service to God.
All venerable
Sabbas was born in Cappadocia in the fifth century and became a monk while still young. He later settled in the desert near Jerusalem, where others gathered around him and a great monastery took shape. He guided monks in prayer and shared life, and traveled to Constantinople on behalf of the Church in Palestine. His remembrance shows that a life of prayer can also be a life of responsibility for other people.
