- ApostleA saint sent to proclaim Christ, especially one of the Twelve or the Seventy, or St. Paul.
All apostles - EvangelistOne of the four saints whose names the Gospels bear: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
All evangelists
Luke was a physician and a companion of St. Paul in the first century. The Church remembers him as the writer of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. Tradition places his beginnings in Antioch, in Syria. His Gospel gives us the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son, stories in which mercy reaches people others might pass by.
How he died
Traditions about his death differ: some say he reposed in peace, others that he was martyred; how he died is uncertain.
