Remembered on December 26
The Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos
The day after Christmas, the Church gathers to honor the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. This gathering is called a synaxis. We remember the mother who bore Jesus and cared for Him, keeping what happened in her heart. Calling her Theotokos, or Mother of God, tells us who her Son is: the child born of her is truly God. Her place in the feast leads us back to Christ, and her faithful response helps us learn to trust Him.
